Could you find this education role appealing?

6:40pm Wednesday 22nd February 2012

WILTSHIRE residents are being encouraged to apply for the role of an education appeal panel member for school admissions and exclusions.

The panels hear appeals against decisions by Wiltshire Council to refuse admission of a child to a school of the parents’ choice. They also hear appeals against decisions by a school’s governing body not to allow a pupil back to school following permanent exclusion.

Admission education appeal panels must be made up of a minimum of three members, including at least one lay member and a member who has experience in education, who is acquainted with educational conditions in the local area, or who is the parent of registered pupils at school.

Exclusion education appeal panels must also be made up of a minimum of three members and must include a lay member, who must chair the hearing, a governor and a headteacher.

Full training and support is provided and appeal panel meetings are generally held between 10am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

No remuneration is payable but claims can be made for the reimbursement of loss of earnings, travelling expenses and subsistence, and for more information contact Roger Bishton on 01225 713035 or roger.bishton@wiltshire.gov.uk.
